Drafting

We utilize a Snake Draft. The person with the first selection will also have the last selection of the second round. The person with the last selection of the first round will also have the first selection of the second round. This order continues during the duration of the draft.

Standard

Type

  • Snake

Order

  • Owners will randomly draw cards for their draft order. There will be a card represented for each pick in the first round.
  • Owners can trade cards prior to making their first draft pick. Once an owner drafts, the order cannot be changed.

Selections

  • Each owner will be required to hold a minimum/maximum of selected positions.
  • In the event that an owner has drafted over the maximum, the last selection will be thrown into the free agent pool. It will be the owners responsibility to pick up another player from free agency and the applicable fee will apply.
  • Minimum/Maximum are as follows:
    • QB (1-4)
    • RB (2-7)
    • WR (2-7)
    • TE (1-4)
    • D/ST (1-3)
    • DL (1-3)
    • LB (1-3)
    • DB (1-3)

Time Limit

  • There is no set time limit for drafting.
  • If an owner is unable to make the draft, they can select a delegate to take their place.
  • If the owner does not have a delegate, the room will decide best way to draft for the player. Often they will utilize one draft sheet and draft the best player available.

Rounds

  • 25 Rounds

Date and Location

  • The draft is typically held at a central location the Sunday prior to kick-off Thursday.
  • The start time varies from year to year. Most drafts take 2 hours in duration.

Keeper

Type

Order

  • The first year, owners will randomly draw cards for their draft order. There will be a card represented for each pick in the first round.
  • All years following, a draft lottery for the 4 non-playoff teams will be utilized to determine order for draft.
  • All teams have equal chance and each name will be placed for drawing.
  • The owner who wins the draft lottery has first choice of draft position in the draft. This will continue until the 4th owner selects their spot.
    • Note that the owner gets to pick what order they draft. The winner does not automatically get first pick.
  • The remaining teams select based off of where they finished in the prior season.
    • Tiebreaker for teams eliminated will be Overall Season Record, followed by Points For, and then Points Against in case of ties.
  • The Champion will have the last selection.
  • Owners can trade cards prior to making their first draft pick. Once an owner drafts, the order cannot be changed.

Keeping Players

After instituting a keeper league in 2014, we determined that we needed to make a big distinction from a keeper league and a dynasty league. The rules for keeping players are enforced so that each year owners will still be required to make strategic moves to continue their success and not just rely on previous success.

Keeper

General

  • Each team has a salary of $60 per year.
    • This salary cannot be traded or given away between owners.
  • Each team can keep as many players as they have salary available.
    • Max of 10 players (Round 21 to 30)
    • No requirement to keep any minimum.
  • The remaining amount of unused Salary will carry over for the following year and helps determine what draft pick you must surrender for player you are keeping.
  • You may keep the player for unlimited years if you have salary available.
  • The 1st year you decide to keep a player, you will forfeit the round they were selected in the draft.
    • Example: Selected Peyton Manning in 4th Round 2014 Draft. You would not draft in the 4th Round of 2015 draft.
  • If you keep a player for more than one year, the player will be moved to the top of owner’s draft.
    • Example: Keeping Peyton Manning in 2016 Draft would require him to move to 1st Round Draft pick even though he was selected in 4th Round of 2014 & 2015.
  • If owner decides to keep more than one player for more than one year, they will be forced to top of draft and placed in whatever order the owner decides.
    • Example: Owner keeps Peyton Manning and Adrian Peterson for 2 years in a row. They would be forced to place Manning/Peterson as 1st and 2nd round draft pick.
  • If player is acquired in a trade and on the roster at the end of the year, owner can keep player the following year in the position they were drafted.
  • If player is acquired as a free agent, the owner can keep player but is forced to move the player to Round 6 of the draft.
    • Example: Owner picks up Keenan Allen in free agents in 2014 season. To keep Allen in 2015, he would have to be used as 6th Round Draft pick.
  • If owner has multiple players that were drafted in the same round, owner would either have to bump player (explained in ) or is forced to release one of the picks.
    • Example: You trade for player that was drafted in 4th Round and you also have player drafted in 4th Round.
  • If an owner drafts a college player, the college player is worth half of the normal value for a non-college player.
    • Example: If you draft your college player in Round 29, he is worth $1 instead of $2.
  • Kept players will all be announced on the same date specified by the commisioner. The commisioner handling the keepers will announce one day early. If a player is hurt during the time between the announcement and the draft, there is a one-time return policy.

Salary and Rollover Bank

Although the league is not an auction format, the salary allows each player and pick to hold a certain value. This creates a decision making process that is unique to the Keeper League and will help benefit those who do their research.

Keeper

Overview

  • At the start of the draft, the owner will receive $60 in Salary for keepers. The points will be used to decide how many players you can keep for the current year.
  • Points not used will be put in a Rollover bank that can be used to bump the rounds of the players the owner decides to keep.
  • Rounds can be bumped down for every 10 points.
    • Example: Peyton Manning is kept for the 2nd year in a row. He is required to move to the top of the draft and owner must forfeit 1st Round Draft pick. The owner has 30 rollover points from previous draft. He could move Peyton Manning to 4th Round Draft pick and use 30 points to move 3 Rounds.
  • If owner chooses to keep more than one player for consecutive years, bumping player down forces other players to move up.
    • Example: Adrian Peterson is being kept for his 2nd year in a row. Owner also wants to keep Lesean McCoy for the 2nd year. Peterson is the 1st Round draft and McCoy is the 2nd. The owner has 30 rollover points. He moves Peterson down to 2nd Round. This forces McCoy to move to 1st Round pick. He uses 10 points on McCoy. Both AP and McCoy sit at round 2. Owner must use 10 points and moves McCoy to 3rd. This used all 30 Points.
  • Rollover points that go unused in a draft will be placed in a Rollover Bank. These points can be used in the same increments of 10 to move players.
    • Example: Owner has 35 Rollover points in 2015 draft. Owner used 30 points and moved players 3 rounds. 5 points remain and are unused. These fall into a bank. In 2016, owner has 35 Rollover points remaining. He uses 5 points from 2015 to combine to make 40 points. They can now bump 4 rounds.
  • Regardless of how many points you have, you can only move one player 3 rounds (30 points) at the maximum.
  • If you are forced to bump a player up a round (not having a draft pick for the keeper round), the players value will always be with the round you are forced to use them with.
    • Example: Owner wants to keep Allen Robinson. He was drafted in the 7th round. Owner traded away 7th round pick. The owner is forced to use a 6 round pick to keep Robinson and therefore has to use the salary associated with the 6th round.

Trades, Waivers, and Free Agency

Trading and Free Agency are the pillars to having a successful season. These rules really fluctuate from fantasy football website to website. We have utilized the same system for over ten years and found success in the structure. We have added a new waiver system to help make free agency more competitive.

Standard

Trade Overview

  • There is no formal trade deadline.
    • Trades during the final few weeks and playoffs are closely observed. Teams that are mathematically eliminated are considered off limits for trades. Unethical trades can be reversed.
  • Trades can be done between two owners and are required to have the same amount of players/picks on both sides.

Trade Players

  • You are not required to trade position for position due to Bench players. You are required to keep minimums for each position.

Waivers

  • When selecting waivers, we will be using a bidding system. Each owner will have a $200 budget and can place a bid on each waiver based on the amount of budget they have remaining.
  • When the budget is exhausted, the owner will be forced to place $0 bids or use free agency.
  • Owners will have the ability to place bids for players and if they lose the bid, they will not lose the amount placed.

Free Agents

  • Free Agents will be selected on a first come, first served basis after waivers have been processed.

Keeper

Trade Overview

  • Player trade deadline will be Week 11.
    • Trades will not be allowed from Week 12-17 to avoid chance of illegal trades to benefit teams in playoffs or teams out of contention.
    • All trades must be fair for the current year. Conditional arrangements are not allowed and can be vetoed by commisioners/majority owners if found unfair.
  • There will be no trade deadline for Draft picks.
  • Trade deadline will be lifted after Week 17 has finished and allowed until 1 week before draft.
  • Trades can be done between two owners and are required to have the same amount of players/picks on both sides.

Trade Draft Picks

  • Owners can trade draft picks but they must be for the same year and must have a draft pick on both sides.
    • Example: Trade 1st Round 2016 for 4th Round 2016.
  • Owners can only trade draft picks if they have prepaid 50% of the following year (non-refundable).
  • Incase of player dropping out, new owners will be penalized by losing picks but will have half of their league paid for.
    • Example: You can trade picks for 2016 if you prepay $50 in 2015 season.

Injuries

Utilizing injuries and injured players can really increase your chance of creating a superior roster. By allowing injured reserve spots, your team isn’t destroyed by having your top star go down with an injury.

Standard

Overview

  • Players must be listed on the website as Doubtful or Out to be placed on Injured Reserve.
  • Players that are injured during games are not allowed on Injured Reserve until they are listed on the website as injured.
  • Audits will be done on Wednesdays and Saturdays to ensure players are placed back on roster if they are no longer listed.
  • If they are not moved by the start of the game, the player that was drafted at the lowest position on the roster will be cut from the team.
    • Example: Peyton Manning is listed as Doubtful for Week 1. He is upgraded to Questionable on Saturday. The game starts on Sunday and he is still on IR for the owner. The commissioner would cut the lowest drafted QB on the owner’s team and place Manning back on current roster.
